Korg Stageman 80
Portable 80W PA/Rhythm Machine
Looking for an all-in-one system for versatile rhythm accompaniment and high-quality sound reinforcement? The Korg Stageman 80 Portable PA with Rhythm Machine is an excellent choice. This stereo 80W PA pumps out plenty of volume for small- to medium-sized rooms, and it offers one XLR mic input, two 1/4" guitar or bass inputs, and a 1/8" TRS auxiliary input for keyboards, MP3 players, and other mobile devices. There are 24 built-in rhythm genres with two variations for each, as well as eight quick-access memory settings accessible via the topside button banks. On top of that, you get input gain-staging, built-in global effects, a two-band EQ, and an up-front Volume knob for setting just the right amplitude for live performance.
Superb rhythm patterns with Real Groove Technology
The Stageman 80 gives you around 3GB of rhythm loops in 24 different genres — all based on live performances by top-ranked pro drummers and percussionists. There are two variations for each genre, giving you even more creative flexibility. Plus, thanks to Korg's Real Groove Technology, you can generate musical, natural-sounding phrases at any tempo from 48-240bpm. You can even chain phrases together (up to 30 banks with 999 measures each) to create whole-song backing rhythms — complete with great-sounding fills — to enhance your original songs with the sound of a real drum backing performance.
Capable, accessible mixing and performance functionality
Some portable PAs require you to lean over the back of the unit to make sound adjustments, but not the Stageman 80. All the inputs are clearly marked on top of the Stageman 80, along with input and output level control knobs, bass and treble controls, and the built-in tuner and Acoustage wide-image function buttons. It's easy to set just the right input levels for your microphone, guitar, or bass, to avoid clipping and achieve a balanced mix. You also get precise control over the rhythm or metronome volume — or the recorder/player volume, depending on which mode you're in — via the Rhythm/Play level knob. Live performers at Sweetwater love the Stageman 80's extensive gain-staging and mix controls, and you will, too.
Recording mode expands flexibility
The Korg Stageman 80 lets you create a compelling music performance with precise mix control at serious amplitudes — but that's not all! The Stageman 80 also gives you powerful music recording functionality within its Recorder mode. You can record to SD card any signal put through the Mic In, Input 1 or Input 2 jacks, or from an electronic instrument connected to the Aux In jack. Recording function buttons are clearly marked on the lower portion of the Stageman 80's top panel. There's a Count Start button that gives you a two-measure lead-in, and you also get looping and overdubbing capability via the Loop/Auto button. And all of the relevant settings, song numbers, editing parameter positions, and tempo are shown on the highly visible LED display screen.
Tuner/battery life buttons get the show going & keep it going
It's a real hassle when you can't see your tuner in a live setting — or when your show is interrupted by batteries' dying. Korg solves those problems with the Stageman 80's built-in tuner and battery life display functions. When you press the Tuner button, your guitar or bass note's frequency is measured accurately; just tune the instrument approximately until the desired note name appears on the LED display, and then continue to tune precisely, using the eight columns of rhythm pattern buttons as a graphic meter. When only the two center columns are lit, your instrument is in tune! Rhythm buttons 1–16 will also indicate remaining battery life when you press the M1 button.
Optional footswitch control and stand mounting
With the addition of the optional Vox VFS5 VT series foot controller (also available at Sweetwater), you can insert fills, switch rhythm patterns and variations, or start/stop the recorder or audio player — without having to use your hands! This is a real boon for singer-instrumentalists. And while the Stageman 80 has a built-in tilt-back function, you might want to elevate it for an enhanced audience experience. You can do that with either the Korg ST-S80 or Ultimate Support TS-70B speaker stand (sold separately at Sweetwater).
